Level: Beginner - Intermediate
Sessions: Three (3 x morning session)
Dates: Thursdays — May 8, 15, & 29 from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
This workshop — suitable for beginner to intermediate — touches on many principles of art and design while working in watercolour. Students are welcome to bring their own mixed media or watercolour sketchbook to fill during these classes, however paper is available at the studio. Topics and activities will include:
- Creating basic drawings with correct form and proportions to plan our paintings (If you are a beginner, that's okay! I'm here to teach you some great tricks to demystify drawing.)
- Discussing and learning about our subjects using "I notice..., I wonder..., It reminds me of..." nature journaling prompts
- Basic watercolour techniques including colour mixing, brush selection, creating textures, layering colour washes, and more
- Pen techniques (stippling, hatching, contour lines, etc)
- When seasonally appropriate, we may work plein air on my property finding subjects outdoors
All tools and materials supplied for use during the workshop. This is a recurring workshop that students can return to in order to refine and develop their skills and technique. Sessions will typically be four weeks at a time (a full month).
Workshops are held in-person in Kemptville, Ontario, Canada.
